ICPC reacts to the reported sack of its Chairman, Ekpo Nta by President Buhari
The Independent Corrupt Practices and other related offences Commission, ICPC has denied receiving any letter from the Federal Government informing its Chairman, Ekpo Nta to proceed on compulsory leave beginning from today, October 26th.
Below is a statement signed by the Commissioner, Public Enlightenment and Spokesperson for the Commission, Edet Ufot and dated October 26th:
"The attention of the Management of the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) has been drawn to the report of above title in the Vanguard newspaper of 26th October, 2016 authored by one Ben Agande and replicated under different titles by some other online and traditional publications.
The report purports that ICPC is in receipt of a letter from the office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, SGF, informing the Chairman, Mr. Ekpo Nta, “to proceed on compulsory leave beginning from today, October 26”. It goes further to impute perceived reasons for the alleged “sack” of the Chairman while quoting an anonymous “ICPC source”. No such letter or letters have been received in the Commission.
ICPC has brought this matter to the attention of the relevant authorities for appropriate action."
Actor jailed for 8 years for sexually assaulting women as they slept at house parties
Actor Nyakeh Kpaka, 26, who appeared in hit TV show Broadchurch has been sentenced to 8 years imprisonment and described in court by the judge as a 'dangerous predator' after it's found he sexually assaulted women who slept off at house parties.
Kpaka - who uses the acting name Nakay Kpaka from Wood Green, North London made his first attack in December 2014 and May 2015 and in both cases lept onto the bed of his victims who didn't know him and assaulted them twice.
He was only arrested after the second attack victim of May 2015- ran out of the house and was screaming when she woke up to find Kpaka seriously 'pounding' her.
He's been found guilty by Woolwich Crown Court of three counts of sexual assault by penetration and handed five years in jail for the two offences in 2015 and three years for the 2014 offence.
Detective Constable Peter Thompson, from the Met's sexual offences, exploitation and child abuse command, said on Tuesday after his court sentence: "Kpaka is a dangerous sexual predator who has attacked vulnerable lone women whilst they were sleeping in bed at two different house parties.
"Thankfully he has now been caught and convicted and is serving a prison sentence.
"I would like to take this opportunity to thank those present at the parties who came to the assistance of the victims and the victims themselves who showed a great degree of courage to report these offences and give evidence against Kpaka."

Osaze Odemwingie wants to return to Super Eagles for 2018 World cup before he retires - Rotherham coach says
Rotherham United head coach Kenny Jackett who revealed on Monday that Nigeria star Osaze Odemwingie has been signed by the club on a short term deal has said that the former West Brom and Stoke city attacker plans to participate with the Super Eagles in Russia 2018 before retiring from the game on a high.Odemwingie's last outing for the Super Eagles was at the 2014 FIFA World Cup in Brazil and Jackett, who took charge of Rotherham for the first time last weekend, insists Odemwingie wants to add to his 63 caps for Nigeria.
“He has been close to one or two moves, but he has signed here and his aim is to work through to the World Cup in 2018, and finish his career off at the highest level he possibly can,” Jackett told Rotherham’s official website on Wednesday.
“He is looking to get playing and I am pleased that he can join us straight away,” Jackett said.
“He is up for the fight, he is up for the challenge in terms of where we are in the league and I am looking forward to working with him. I think he will be fine for Saturday, he has been training hard and we are really pleased with what we have seen.”

Nigeria Police recover N2.7m bribe money from Assistant Commissioner of Police
The Nigeria Police Force Complaint Response Unit (CRU) said it has resolved 324 cases and recovered N2.7 million bribe from an Assistant Commissioner of Police in one of the states after a complaint was made through a telephone call.
This was contained in the third quarter report of the unit released on Thursday, October 13th, by Acting Assistant Commissioner of Police and Head of CRU in Abuja, ACP Abayomi Shogunle
The bribe money was recovered from the ACP after the case was referred to the X-Squad for necessary action in line with the directive issued by the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Ibrahim Idris, NPM, mni that X-Squad be included. Shogunle said necessary disciplinary procedures are ongoing against the officer involved in the unacceptable conduct. See the full report below:
In line with its mandate of receiving and resolving cases of police professional misconduct, the Complaint Response Unit (CRU) of the Nigeria Police Force has resolved 324 cases out of a total of 405 complaints made against the police by members of the public between July 1st, and September 30th, 2016. 51 out of cases reported during period under review were found to be false while 30 cases are still pending.
Rivers Police Command tops the state ranking with a total number of 78 cases, followed by Lagos with 72 and FCT-Abuja with 48 cases. The Q3 report shows that over half of the complaints against the police came from four state commands - Rivers, Lagos, FCT-Abuja and Anambra which accounts for 55.06% of complaints during the period under review.
No single complaint was reported against the police in six state commands - Bauchi, Jigawa, Katsina, Kebbi, Osun and Sokoto. Kebbi state remains the only command with no complaint made against the police since the inception of the CRU in November, 2015.
Professional misconduct tops the complaint distribution category with 154 entries, followed by demanding money for bail with 144 entries. More complaints were received via phone call – 294 cases, while WhatsApp – 55, Twitter – 20, email – 19, Facebook – 6, SMS – 2, BBM – 1 and 8 cases reported via others (petition letters, media publications).
A copy of the report available at the NPF website http://www.npf.gov.ng/images/POLICE_CRU_2016_Q3_REPORT.pdf shows that the sum of Two million, Seven hundred and Fifty thousand Naira bribe money was recovered from an Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) serving in one of the State commands after a complaint was made to the CRU through a telephone call.
Necessary disciplinary procedures are ongoing against the officer involved in the unacceptable conduct just as the suspect arrested in respect of the case upon which the bribe money was collected has since been handed over to the relevant Government agency for prosecution for the offence that necessitated the arrest of the suspect.
The bribe money was recovered from the ACP after the case was referred to the X-Squad for necessary action in line with the directive issued by the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Ibrahim Idris, NPM, mni that X-Squad be included as part of CRU responding agents. The new inclusion of X-Squad as one of CRU responding agents in addition to State Provost Marshals, OC SIB, Control-Room demonstrates the IGP’s determination in ensuring more effective response to cases of alleged police professional misconduct nationwide.
According to Ag. ACP Abayomi Shogunle, Head of CRU who signed the 2016 Q3 Report, the nationwide sharp reduction in complaints against the police during the period under review is linked to the fact that Nigerian Police officers are becoming more professional in carrying out their duties as a result of capacity training programmes, the zero tolerance of the current police leadership to all forms of professional misconduct and the police awareness that the public can now easily report unsatisfactory police conducts.
The report states that in line with international best practices of building police-public trust, monitoring safeguards are in place to ensure protection of human rights during policing operations nationwide and that more collaboration activities are scheduled with stakeholder – local and international groups in the last quarter of this year. In order to increase the level of awareness about the CRU, IGP Ibrahim Idris has approved the production of CRU information handbills/flyers in local languages (Hausa, Igbo, Yoruba) and same would be distributed to all Local Government Area in Nigeria this October.
Ogun State police arrest three for armed robbery and kidnapping.
The Ogun State police command has arrested three suspected armed robbers and kidnappers named Abibu, Kamorudeen and Olalekan (surnames withheld), believed to have been terrorising residents of Ijebu-Ode and Sagamu respectively. The state's spokesperson, Abimbola Oyeyemi, said the Federal Special Anti-Robbery Squad operatives at Ipoji area of Sagamu, were able to have arrested the suspects due to information given to them by the residents. Meanwhile, two pump action riffles, one double barrel gun, one English barrel gun and single barrel guns have been recovered from the suspects. The Commissioner of Police, Ahmed Iliyasu, however directed the officers that the suspects should be investigated with the view to apprehend other possible members of the gang.

Kidnapped Romanian Engineer, others released
The Romanian Engineer, Nedeclu Christian and two Nigerians who were abducted by gunmen last Sunday at Railway Village in Owa-Oyibo, Ika North East Local Government Area of Delta State have been released after about 72 hours in the custody of their abductors
The victims are staff members of Julius Berger who were working at a construction site at Abavo, Ika South Local Government Area of the state.
The State's police spokesperson SP Celestina Kalu, who confirmed their release, said the victims were freed as a result of pressure on the abductors by security operatives.
Kalu stated that the victims were released at about 5:30pm when security operatives combing the bushes were already closing-in on the bandits’ hideout.
