Michael Ibru: Business mogul reportedly dies at 86
Ibru died in the United States on Tuesday, September 6, 2016, where he was receiving treatment.

Business mogul, and patriarch of the Ibru family, Olorogun Michael Christopher Onajirhevbe Ibru is dead. reports say.
According to The Guardian, Ibru died in the United States on Tuesday, September 6, 2016, where he was receiving treatment.
Olorogun Michael Christopher Onajirevbe Ibru (OFR) was born on December 25, 1930 to Chief Peter Epete Ibru and Chief (Mrs.) Janet Omotogor Ibru, in Warri, Delta State.
He attended Igbobi College, Lagos between 1948 and 1951, after secondary school, he joined the United African Company (UAC), as a management trainee.
His sojourn in UAC was short-lived as his entrepreneurship instincts gave him the insight to form a partnership with his former boss, Jimmy Large, known as Labru.
According to reports, Labru was established as a trading company with tentacles spreading into other West African nations, before Ibru discovered that the frozen fish market had enormous potentials.
In 1975, the then Midwest State government appointed the business mogul as a member of the Provisional Council of theUniversity of Benin.
As a result of his success in business, Olorogun was appointed as a member of the Economic Cabinet Committee of the former Midwest State, the African Development Bank President’s Round Table of Businessmen in Africa, the Business Advisory Council of the International Finance Corporation (IFC).
He was awarded the Officer of the Order of the Federal Republic (OFR) in 1981 by the Shehu Shagari administration.
Academic institutions also awarded him with various honorary degrees. He bagged the Honorary Doctor of Laws (Hon. LL.D.) of the University of Benin (1978) and University of Ibadan (1978), Doctor of Agriculture (Honoraris Causa), University of Agriculture, Abeokuta, 2004.
Olorogun Michael Christopher Onajirevbe Ibru (OFR) retired as Chairman of Oceanic Bank International Plc, in 2007.
